This is not a unique case. Unethical hackers have turned ethical hackers later on and helped the police cracking many cyber crimes. Then there is always the bargain when an unethical hacker like the 18-yr-old guy here in question. He can reduce his sentence considerably helping the police by doing what he enjoys most - hacking!
